Elite Access Control Installation: The Conroe Owner’s Guide

Elite access control installation in Conroe typically runs $425 to $1,150 installed, depending on whether we’re splicing a failed keypad, replacing a receiver board, or wiring a full new reader and controller into your existing Elite operator. Most Elite keypad and receiver swaps are done same-day because we stock the common Elite part numbers on the truck. You’ll usually discover the problem the hard way: the keypad stops accepting your code after a hard rain, the remote works from 10 feet but not 40, or the gate simply stops responding to everything except the manual release.

We’re not affiliated with Elite as a distributor; we’re the independent Conroe service company that works on their gear every week, documents what we find, and hands you a written price before the first wire is pulled.

Which Elite Models This Applies To

Elite has made gate operators for decades, and the access control side spans their swing and slide lines: the SL-3000 and SL-4000 slide operators, the CSW-200 and CSW-500 swing units, and a long run of legacy Mirage, Viper, and Sprint models still working in Conroe subdivisions like Teas Lakes and River Plantation. The access control wiring is largely consistent across these: 24 VDC accessory power, normally-open relay inputs for open commands, and a common ground. That sounds simple. The gotcha is that Elite changes keypad pinouts between production runs, and an older keypad wired into a newer SL-3000 board will sometimes fire the gate but never trigger the close-limit input. We’ve chased that exact ghost on three Conroe properties this year.

Identifying your part is straightforward if you know where to look. The keypad or receiver will have a silver tag or molded stamp showing the part number. Elite OEM keypads usually carry part numbers starting with “EA” or “KP,” while receiver boards are marked with an RB or RX prefix. If the tag is gone, we match by pin count and voltage draw. For an Elite system, we generally recommend OEM parts for anything board-level; aftermarket keypads work, but the weather sealing on genuine Elite housings is measurably better on the older teardrop-style units.

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
  • Keypad accepts some codes but not others. This usually isn’t a keypad failure at all. One relay channel on the receiver board is sticking, so the second or third programmed code never passes through. We test each channel individually before condemning the part.
  • Remote range drops to under 15 feet. The receiver antenna on Elite boards is a short whip that corrodes badly in Conroe humidity. A good cleaning will sometimes recover range; a broken solder joint at the antenna base will not.
  • Gate works from the wall button but not the keypad or remote. That points to the accessory terminal block or a blown accessory fuse on the Elite control board. Easy to misdiagnose; we see homeowners replace a perfectly good keypad because the fuse was the actual problem.
  • Keypad lights up but won’t activate the gate. The membrane has failed or water has crept past the face seal. On older Elite teardrop keypads, the gasket dries out, shrinks, and lets Gulf humidity straight into the contact pads.
  • Gate opens, pauses, then reverses without closing. An access control signal is being double-fired by a failing receiver, sending two open commands where one should be. The board interprets that as an obstruction event.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we charge in Conroe, in writing, before any work starts:

  • Elite OEM keypad replacement: $425-$640 installed, depending on whether we’re matching an existing cutout or running a new riser line.
  • Receiver board replacement: $520-$780 installed, including re-pairing all remotes and documenting the new board’s part number.
  • Full access control package (keypad, receiver, antenna, weatherproof enclosure): $780-$1,150 installed, depending on wire runs and whether the enclosure mounts to masonry or steel.

The range depends on three things: which Elite generation you have, whether the existing wiring is salvageable, and how much of the old housing we can reuse. Everything is line-itemed: part cost, labor, and incidentals. You approve the total before we open the panel. All access control work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right within a year, we fix it at no charge. And your record includes photos of the old part, the new part, and every connection we touched, left with you before we pull out of the driveway.

Here’s the honest split. You can safely check a few things yourself: verify the breaker isn’t tripped, look for an obvious blown fuse on the Elite board, and confirm the keypad has power at all. None of that requires tools beyond a flashlight and your eyes. The danger point is wiring. Elite access control runs on 24 VDC, which won’t hurt you, but the terminal block sits inches from 120 VAC line voltage inside the same enclosure. One wrong probe tip while the operator is live and you’re in a bad spot. If you’re not comfortable working inside a live electrical panel, don’t.

Most Conroe homeowners call us because a failed keypad or receiver has already kept them locked out or, worse, locked in. We’ll match the part to your exact Elite board revision, test it before we button it up, and show you the written price first. Call (936) 297-5126 and a live person answers, day or night.
